Annual Accessibility Plan

The purpose of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA) is to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and to provide for their involvement in the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to their full participation in the life of the province. To this end, the ODA mandates that every applicable government organization, including Wilson Memorial General Hospital, form an "Accessibility Advisory Committee" and prepare an "Annual Accessibility Plan". It is required that all organizations have their Annual Accessibility Plan in place, and available to the public by September 30, 2003.

The following document represents the current year's plan (2005-2006) as prepared by Wilson Memorial General Hospital Staff who will, henceforth, be working in consultation with the newly formed Accessibility Advisory Committee (Accessibility Working Group). Among other things, this Accessibility Plan describes; (1) the measure that the Hospital has taken in the past, and (2) the measures that the Hospital will take in the next twelve months to identify, remove and prevent barriers to people with disabilities who use the facilities and services of the Hospital - including WMGH staff, summer students, patients, clients, and volunteers.

Wilson Memorial General Hospital is committed to improving the overall accessibility at the facility in the years ahead. It is hoped that by working closely with staff and the Accessibility Working Group, the Hospital can improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities. This Accessibility Plan is one in a series of important steps towards identifying and removing the existing barriers as well as the prevention of new barriers within the Hospital's domain.
