REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE, Part-time
JOB SUMMARY:
The Registered Practical Nurse is under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse on duty. S/he is responsible for direct care of clients assigned in the clinical areas, within the scope of practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. These areas include Acute Care, Emergency, Labour, Delivery and Newborn Care, Pediatrics and primarily Long-Term Care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Holds current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
2. Holds current CPR Certificate as a Basic Rescuer from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
3. Proven ability to work well with others both internally and externally.
4. Experience and/or increased education in the various clinical areas mentioned an asset.
5. Bilingualism an asset.
6. Computer and Keyboarding skills an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan and implement direct care to clients in various clinical areas according to the Standards of Practice from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
2. Administer treatments and dressings as ordered by the Medical Staff according to Hospital policy.
3. Document client care consistent with charting guidelines and audit standards.
4. Use equipment, supplies, other Hospital resources and community agencies to maximize the quality of client care.
5. Participate in staff development by attending in services, reading journals, attending mock codes and taking courses, etc., to ensure continuous quality improvement in client care.
6. Keep within appropriate channels all confidential and privileged information about clients, colleagues and other Health Care personnel.
7. Work as part of Client Care Team (i.e., Nursing staff, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging.)
Occupational Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Is aware of employee responsibilities and follows all Health and Safety policies
- Is responsible to work safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, clients, residents, visitors, students and volunteers
- Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to their immediate supervisors (can be Team Leader, charge nurse, Director of Client Services, CEO)
- Does not operate or use faulty equipment
- Wears PPE or clothing as may be required by task, MSDS or policy
- Participates in fire safety drills and knows the facility fire and disaster plans
OTHER:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse and/or Director of Client Services.
