PUBLIC REPORTING
On May 28, 2008 the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) announced new public reporting
requirements on eight patient safety indicators as part of a comprehensive plan to create an unprecedented level of transparency in Ontario’s hospitals.

On September 30, 2008, all Ontario hospitals will be required to publicly report on Clostridium difficile (C.
difficile) rates in their facilities. By December 31, 2008, hospitals will be required to publicly report on
Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) and Hospital
Standardized Mortality Ratio (HSMR) followed by rates of Central Line Infections (CLI), Surgical Site Infections
(SSI), Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) and Hand Hygiene on April 30, 2009.
